Photo Groups and Tags

Photo Groups is an optional paid add-on for your order.

If you have purchased the Photo Groups add-on, you can separate stacks of at least 60 photos using bags or rubber bands.

  • We preserve these groupings digitally by creating different folders for each group.
  • These titled folders will appear on both your USB thumb drive and Cloud photos.
  • Our system reads the group title to add Locations and Dates to your new digital photos.
    • If Reverse Scanning is enabled, we also check the backs of photos for more handwritten information to enhance these tags.

Without our Photo Groupings add-on, we cannot guarantee any chronological order you create will be preserved.

Group Requirements

Groups that do not follow these guidelines may be skipped or combined.

  1. Each group must be at least 60 photos (about a 1/2 inch stack).
  2. The photos inside each group must be sorted by size, from smallest to largest.
  3. Each group must have a title.
    • Titles can be written on a sticky note/index card or on the bag/envelope.
    • Titles can anything, from "A" to "bag 1" to "Mary's Wedding 1992".
    • Titles will be converted to ALL UPPERCASE for compatibility.
    • Titles cannot be longer than 30 characters. A forward slash '/' will be replaced with a dash character '-'.
    • Titles can be repeated over several groups. All groups with the same title will be combined digitally.
      • This makes is easy for you to split a large group by photo size, without the risk of bending larger photos to fit in a bag/rubber band.

We do not guarantee the order of photos within groups. Groups must follow the photo preparation guidelines. Differently sized photos can be grouped together, we just ask that the group you create has the sizes stacked from smallest to largest.

If there are a handful of Groups that are smaller than 60 photos, that is generally fine. When scanning we just check that the majority follow this rule.

Photo Group Tagging

Just separating your photos is a huge boost to organization, but we also sprinkle in some magic to enhance your Photo Groups. Here is how it works:

  1. Simple Title Recognition: When we scan a Photo Group, our system reads the title for Date and Location information.
    • Let's say you have a Photo Group titled "July 1991 Tampa Reunion".
    • Our system understands that 'Tampa, Florida' is the place where the photos were taken and 'July 1991' is the year and month.
  2. Extended Reverse Scanning: We automatically check the backs of your photos for more handwritten information and add this to the photo's tag. This is great for more exact dates or locations that only apply per-photo.
  3. Automatic Memory Tagging: We add all these neat details to your digital photos. It's like writing on the back of a printed photo!
    • In the example above, your photo would now have a digital tag showing it was taken in Tampa, Florida, in July 1991.

This process makes it easier for you to find your photos later. You can look up photos by the place they were taken or the year, just like flipping through an old photo album, but on your computer. It also helps you remember when and where your cherished memories happened.

Photo Group tagging is compatible with most Photo apps, like Apple Photos, Google Photos, and Samsung Gallery.

A: The add-on fee for Photo Groups depends on the service you choose. It's typically a 30% additional charge on top of the base box cost. For our Bring Your Own Box program, Photo Groups is an extra $0.03 per photo.
